Bolo!

Privacy Policy

Effective August 3, 2026

Bolo! is built for small children, so we hold it to the strictest standard we know: collect nothing at all. This page explains, in plain language, exactly what the app does and does not do.

The short version

What stays on the device

During setup a parent types the child’s first name so the app can show it on screen. That name, along with lesson progress and the sticker collection, lives inside the app on your device, in the device backups you control (like iCloud backup), and in a small private iCloud sync that carries progress to your family’s other devices. That sync happens inside your own iCloud account, run by Apple; it never reaches us and we have no way to read it. Deleting the app and its iCloud data deletes everything.

Kapi’s voice never speaks the child’s name: every family hears the same warm recordings, in which every child is simply “dost”, friend.

The microphone

The Hanuman Chalisa sing-along can make the words glow while your child sings. For that, the app measures only the sound level in the moment, and the level is thrown away immediately. In word lessons, Bolo! can also record a short clip of your child saying the word, purely so they can hear themselves straight back. That clip stays in the app’s temporary space on the device, is overwritten at the next try, and is never uploaded or transcribed; no speech recognition runs anywhere in the app. If you decline the microphone permission, everything still works; the glow simply follows Kapi’s voice instead of your child’s.

Purchases

Bolo! Plus is an optional subscription bought through Apple. Payment runs entirely through your Apple account; we never see your name, address or payment details. Purchase screens sit behind a parent gate designed for grown-up hands, and the app checks your subscription with Apple directly on the device.

Children’s privacy

Bolo! is made for children ages 3 to 6 and follows Apple’s Kids Category rules: no ads, no data collection, and no links or purchases a child can reach. The simplest way to protect a child’s data is to never collect it, so that is what we do. Because nothing is collected, there is nothing to consent to, share, sell or lose. This is how we meet children’s privacy laws such as COPPA.

This website

bolo.kids is a static site. It sets no cookies, runs no analytics and loads nothing from third-party servers. What you read here stays between you and your browser.

Changes

If the app ever changes what it stores, this page changes first and the date at the top moves. A promise this simple should stay simple.
